I am a new owner of a 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger Edge Pickup with 3.0 v-6 engine and it is a 5 speed. I noticed one day while I was "pushing" the truck that when I got to 90 MPH that the truck would do this little hesitation. It never stopped or anything but as long as I tried to 90 it would do this. As soon as I dropped to about 85MPH it would run fine with no heistations at all. I mention thsi to a froend of mine and they said that it may be some type of speed control chip on the truck that prevents it from doing 90 or better. I would like to know if this is true and if it is. Is there anything that I can do to remove it. I thank you in advance for your help.
Dont expect your engine to last long after this mod, running it at those high RPM's will take its toll on the rings and valve guides and seals. It wont be long befor its smoking and using oil.
Don't try to force it over 90mph. I read a thread here not to long ago someone doing that and screwed up his computer. I have a 4.0 sohc it does the samething at 90. So i try to never go over 85

Thanks Valo. did this person have the modified chip in it that allows it to go over 90 or did he just push it? Just courious.
About the 90 being high RPM...it's really not that much. I think once I pop it into 5th I'm only pulling about 3500 RPM's. Maybe I'm just used to that being low because I've always owned OHC 4 poppers.
