I would like to know the best coolant to use, has anyone used "fleet guard" it says it has the additive already mixed, can I put too much additive in, and what will that do to my PSD, I have 15000 on it and it has not been worked like it should, but I want to make it last, what should I do, should I change all the coolant all at once? Thanks for any help you can give.
Fleetguard is a good product. The company is a subsidiary of Cummins Engine Company. You can over concentrate you system. This will lead to the additive gelling and plugging your radiator. Test it periodically with test strips. If you use the premix coolant, start with an empty system. This will insure that the levels are correct and there aren't any problems with mixing different coolant types.
We use Nalcool or Dex-cool additives in all of our Kenworths and Freightliners with DCA (dessicant coolant additive) spin on filters.
All of our Dodge/Cummins and Fords recieve the same coolant additive and the F450 - F-750s get DCA spin ons added into the system.
The Cummins powered trucks the coolant is tested every 4 months and the Detroit powered trucks are tested every 3 months, because of the difference in cylinder liners.
Since we buy antifreeze in 55 gallon barrels, we don't buy premixed coolant.
