Damage while towing?

Pardon My ignorance, but I have been reading the posts for some time on EGT's and such. My
question is can you cause damage to a stock engine with no mods whatsoever, or is there some
safety measures Ford has built into the system that will keep that from happening? For example 80
MPH for 10 miles on a 8% uphill grade with a 7000# trailer??

i would say yes , if you just floor it up a steep grade(8%) and are pulling a good load (7000#) i would bet you would hit 1250* on the egt or higher

I can say yes or no. I have a friend that pulled a 34 foot scarab 8500lbs locked and loaded all the way to the keys doing around 90mph. By the way he was a florida marine patrol at the time. He had his foot into that throttle just smokin away. Didnt hurt a thing on his truck. He ran it for another year then got a chip in it. Did the same thing a little over a year latter this time he toasted the turbo with the chip. I get nervous just barely getting into the throttle on mine towing my 6000lb boat. But then again I want mine to last...

Unless you're running WOT with the max GCWR or over these engines are detuned enough to have no problems.

I just was not sure if safeguards were built into the computer...
Any idiot lights or warning bells. I let a friend use my truck and
was told when he gave it back this was what he actually did. Of coarse he added "this thing is awesome" I was worried and did not know if he could have damaged something, or even what to look for if he did.

Wow, you must trust your friend pretty good to be letting him use your powerstroke without you there!! It's tough for me to let anybody drive it around, let alone go towing with it.

The majority of PSDs run stock right down to the air filter and have no problems with damage from towing. I'm not saying it can't happen, but it usually doesn't.

Stock no chiped yes.
Stock or not you need to let the engine idle for a time before shut down if towing hard to keep from toasting the oil in the turbo.

I think all is well, but my next move is to have the oil analysis at the next oil change. Not sure what
else to look for.
