my engine on my 79 ford f-100 broke a month or so ago...like completely broke...so i figured id just get a new engine. ive always wanted efi, but its soo expensive...but i ended up buying an efi engine on ebay that came with almost all fuel injection pieces. i get the basic jist of fuel injection, but id like to make this as simple as possible...and since the egr system is half of the confusion of the whole deal, and i know an engine can run without it, so i want to take it out COMPLETELY..no egr valve, no thermactor, no exhaust gasses circulating through my intake manifold period. would it be simple enough as taking the pump and all vacuum hoses off, making sure to maintain vacuum? or could i just block the middle hole off on the lower intake manifold, or is that for pcv? i know theyve got some EFI geniuses on here, and right now, this is over my head. if one could take the time to explain this to me, i would be greatly appreciative.
If you want simple, leave the motor emissions intact. Take the egr to intake gasket lay it on a piece of metal and cut out a block off plate, walle no recirculation of emissions gases.
Even simpler way of doing it if you only want a mild setup, sell all the emission and efi equipment off this motor, including the intakes and throttle body and distributor. Put that money towards a holley projection unit, a standard carb intake, duraspark II distributor or aftermarket. Then you have a high tech carb or otherwise known as a throttle body injection, these kits can be found from $300 to $700 on ebay complete. This is only a suggestion.
