Chip feed back
I just bought a 2002 F-250 4x4 SPD, I am thinking of chipping it but I am sceptical of problems that I here other people having. I have read some of the posts here and all I see if praise. Is nobody having problems with the Diablo or Superchip?
I find it hard to believe that I see no Horror stories posted here.

Maxx, I went with Hypertech Power Programer. It works great, more power, nicer trans shifting, and improved fuel milage. All you need to do is plug it in answer some yes/no questions in 15mins you are on your way. You can uninstall it at any time. Unlike the others that require removal of the factory chip (coated in some type of tar-like substance) this is a very simple. I my personal opinion the Hypertch does not raise any red flags to the dealer if they need to plug in there computer to yours, because you can simply uninstall it before you big it in.

Maxx;
Ken will probaly move this post, but before he does,
I have a Diablo towing chip, I LOVE IT, I did not see an increase in fuel millage, but man it kicks a**. I have all the power I need and more. I tow a 27' 5-er and will pass anything on the road that I want to. I had to send mine back once for reprograming but have had NO problems with it. MY CHIP ROCKS!!
Go to the chip forum and talk to all the people that have chips, they can tell you what its like.

Just an FYI, no aftermarket chip for 1995+ Fords require removal of the factory chip. There isn't a specifically a "chip" to remove as they use integrated micro-controller. You simply plug the performance into the edge connecter and it overrides the factory ROM. The only thing required is to clean the connecter and plug the chip in.

Put a Diablo sport chip in and now the automatic shifts like it should, good firm shifts and holds overdrive while towing over 10,000 lbs. To clarify firm shifts, they cut down on length of shift time but not so hard that my wife complains.
One drive in a unit with this chip was all it took to get one.

I like these types of endings! We have the occasional truck that shows no improvement (usually a high mileage one and then it can sometimes be attributed to something else that's keeping the timing backed off) or one that won't take a chip at all... but the majority of the time this is how it ends....
I'm in the process of burning custom chip for the wife's Escort (she's hooked on Diablo and wanted some custom stuff).

I hate to say this, but you're speaking a falsehood out of ignorance (this is not a slam, just saying you haven't experienced it or someone has mislead you). THERE IS NO REMOVAL OF THE FACTORY CHIP!!!
Matter of fact, there is no factory "chip." GM uses a chip, Ford doesn't. Ford's ECU box has an accessory port, sort of like a miniture edge connector used by PC expansion cards. This has very thin coating (about a 1/4 mm thick) that needs to be removed.

Same thing with a chip module. Just unplug it.

With all do respect I would like to apologize for not being a Ford Engineer! Calling me ignorant from a post is just plain disrespectful.
Lets talk about MY ignorance......
>>Unlike the others that require removal of
>>the factory chip (coated in some type of tar-like substance)
>>this is a very simple.
Was I not correct that you would have to remove some type of coating?
>This has very thin coating (about a 1/4 mm thick) that needs to be removed.
Was I also correct in saying that you needed to remove and install something, whether a chip or connector?
>Same thing with a chip module. Just unplug it.
Was I also correct in saying installing a HyperTech Power Programed is a very simple process?

Ignorance means lack of knowledge, it does not mean stupid. If you don't know something, you are ignorant of it. I am ignorant of high level analog electronics engineering, drag race engine building and lots of other things. Its not bad, just the truth. From the dictionary:
Ignorant: Unaware or uninformed; also, lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified. IGNORANT may imply a general condition or it may apply to lack of knowledge or awareness of a particular thing <ignorant of nuclear physics>.
Since you are discussing something you have no first hand experience with you are ignorant of it. There's no slam there, just a lack of knowledge with it.

Not correct. You said you needed to remove a tar-like substance. There is no tar like substance. You simply buff a glaze off the connector (its the same as clear hard dry nail polish).

No, you are not correct. You do not need to remove a chip or connector. You simply plug a computer module in.

That is correct. And so is plugging a computer module into the ECU.
