After pulling out the power rear window motor on my 1996 Eddie Bauer I decided to do some limited diagnostics (very limited) before I ran out and bought a new one. I used a car battery with two wire leads and hooked them to the leads on the motor and it turned fine and when I switched the leads, the motor turned the other way. I then used a test light on the connection in the tailgate and got these results. When I pushed the dash window switch "up" I got power from both wires. When I pushed the dash window switch "down" I had no power in either wire. The same thing happened when I tried the tailgate switch. The motor works on the bench but not in the truck. Any Ideas?
Thanks!
Bob
There's a good schematic out here somewhere. I think most people seem to have trouble with these items :
-Either the front or the back switch is bad
-The power wire has abraded and broken where it must bend when the tailgate opens
-The dummy switch inside the driver's side latch is broken or misadjusted
I'd look at the schematic, keeping the first two conditions in mind. Because there are two powered switches, the circuit has some interesting loops in it. I'm going to bet one of your switches is broken. Good luck - having a test light is a great benefit. Sounds like you're halfway there already.
dash switch: reason is the ground for both the rearand dash switches go through the dash switch. Don't order a new tailgate harness before you spend $20 on a dash switch
