I purchased a used 1994 F150 4x2 which did not have towing electricals installed to the rear. I located the OEM male electronic brake connector under the dash and was able to purchase a matching female from Ford (different year, same pinout). The BLUE wire on the harness under the dash is the one I need to "see" at the rear of the truck. Trouble is, I can't find it terminated at the rear or in any harness leading to the rear. My option is to run a new BLUE wire.
Does anyone know where the blue wire I saw under the dash goes to? Where can I pick it up, and where and how does it terminate?
Any input is much appreciated. This is my first Ford pickup but I have wired numerous vehicles and trailers before.
Ford harness-----------Brake controller wire colors------use
Red --------------------Black -------------------------+12 Volts
Light Green------------- Red---------------------------- Stoplight
White------------------ White-------------------------- Ground
Dark Blue--------------- Blue ---------------------------Trailer Brakes
Brown-------------------N/A
From previous posts I have gathered that Ford did not install the blue wire to the rear. I have personally had no experience though. But if you have unwrapped the rear harness and it's not there, you will have to run one yourself I guess. Nothing is easy is it?
The blue brake wire ends under the dash so it's gotta have a second end somewhere. However, at this point is probably easier just to run a new wire to the rear and live with the mystery.
Thanks for your help; much appreciated.
Usually if you drop the spare tire, the factory connector is on the driver side tucked up in the frame, wire is there if you have the plug under the dash. Mine is a 99 but here is the color codes of the wiring at the spare tire:
Dark Blue Trailer Brake
Orange Trailer Battery feed
Yellow Left/Stop turn
Dark Green Right/stop turn
White Ground
Brown/white Trailer Running Lamps
(7) Black/Lt green Trailer Back up Lamps
