I am building a sealed box for a 10" RF punch Z sub. That thickness MDF(other materials?) should I use? I have a few 1/2" scrap pieces around and 1/2" looks good. Sould I go with 5/8"? The amp I have is about 200W max, It wont reach the subs max power. I wanna make this a good box the first time round. Also, should I worry bout bracing? The box is 21" long, 13" high, 8" bott depth and 6" top depth.
1/2" is probably to thin, I would go with 3/4" MDF. Bracing would be a good idea, but probably not necessary for just one 10". Make sure you use plenty of wood glue or construction adhesive and plenty of wood screws (NO nails).
Yeah it does.... A buddy of mine put a box together with liquid nails and screws. About a week later he had to take it apart cuz it wouldn't fit . Well, I guess I should say he had to break it apart. That stuff is like concrete after it dries to MDF.
if you use the 1/2 in board, bracing is a must, When I built my box, the face with the subs in it is 3/4 in MDF and the rest is 1/2, but I also did a lot of bracing. box is the same size as the center seat up front, oh yeah it is the center seat up front...
bracing, huh, how do ya do that? Can you make angle cuts easily with MDF, I have a slanted frnt box and want it to make a good clean contact with the bottom board.
Use a table saw, makes life a lot easier. Use Glue on the box, it will setup and hold stronger than nails or screws, I use a nail gun just to hold it until the glue sets.
I just got it built and tried it out. IT POUNDS GREAT!! I used Gorilla glue cause it foams out around all the places where there are edges and liquid nails on the inside as an extra measure. It sounds awesome. Thanks for the advice!!!
