I have a 92 Ford Explorer 4.0L v6 engine with the manual transmission. This is a strange problem. The vehicle only acts up after driving for 20 or more minutes in go/stop traffic. If theirs no traffic, the vehicle runs fine. One moment the vehicle is operating normal and then when it heats up (the temp gauge is right in the middle between cold and hot) and also, I notice the engine compartment being very hot, that's the time when the vehicle will spudder before stalling. Pull on the side and let it rest for a couple of minutes before starting and it fires up right away as if nothing happen. Vehicle will run normal the rest of the way. So far, I haven't experienced the problem at night when I drive approx. a total of 10 miles back and forth to work. I get home and my wife drives it to work okay (7 miles) with no traffic in the mornings. When she gets off work in the afternoon and at about a mile before she reaches home is when the vehicle spudders before it stalls. The air filter, spark plugs/wires, ignition module and ignition coil pack has already been changed. I checked all vaccum hoses, MAF sensor appears clean, cleaned out the IAC and checked PCV. Problem still lingers. Any suggestions please.

Are you using up any coolant...and can't find a leak?? How is the spark plugs condition? hmmm...I had this...and it was a cracked head, ran and over time got worse. After engine disassembly found that both heads were cracked in the exact location, between the valves. Resulted in running poor when hot, and got bad enough to require a new engine.hope this is not your condition...but one you might want to look at, as I hear this is comin with those
