Question Trailer Brakes?

Friend of mine just got a new F-150 scab XLT 4X2 5.4L with the towing package. Will the trailer brakes on his camper just be a plug and go deal or does he need to get an additional system to operate the trailer brakes? Any help would be nice.

Thanks,
Alton

Trailer Brakes

There should be a baggie in the glove box with a wiring harness for a Brake controller which he will need to buy, and a relay that plugs into the tow package fuse box. Directions are included.

This is a real easy install. The hardest part is deciding where you want the control. You just wire the control to the Ford pigtail, and plug it in.

FYI, if you've got surge brakes with the reverse solinoid, like I do on my boat trailers, you can just plug it in at the 7-Pin on the bumper. The reverse solinoid will work through the reverse lights terminal.

Put my controller in a few weeks ago, installed the relay out of the baggie in the fuse block on passenger side. Prodigy brake controller with fortd harness plugged in under dash, near steering column. Mounted the controller on left side, a little open area with a hidden metal bracket worked fine.

Took about an hour or so. Hardest was drilling the metal bracket as it's got some dimples on it.
