Im tryin to put in some aftermarket speakers and i cant figure out ho to remove the door panels. I get the only 2 screws out by the handle, then i remove the armrest but from there im stuck. Any info will be much appreciated. I have a 96 for expo xlt 4door. Thanks
What i did for my 98 exp. was take out the 2 screws under the plate by the handle, then i took a stiff putty knife (flat screwdriver would work also) and slid it under the panel itself, you will feel the barbed fasteners when you slide the knife from side to side, when you find one just yank straight out on the panel. I think there are around 10 or so of these barbed things, when you have them all popped out just lift straight up on the panel and it should come off for you. Before i began this i went to the parts store and picked up a few of the fasteners, they are cheap and odds are that you might break a few of them durring the process. When you get the panel off disconnect the power mirror switch and you can slide out the power window switches also, then just reverse the process for putting it back on. Took about 10 min to do and had no major probs. Good luck!
You also need to remove the trim plate around the door handle. Putty knife or screwdriver works for this as well. I've found that once you get the panel started on the bottom corner you can use your hands to pull the panel off. When replacing put all plastic push connectors on the panel first.
Thank Alot!!!! I have been bothered this whole time with it, i have a very good sound system as in sub and amp, but those stock speakers are really weak so i havent been able to crank my system up.
