Anatomy Question
Anatomy Question
I have just removed the water pump from my 460 V8 1994 F-53 chassis.
What is located between the water pump and the engine block?
The pump was pretty stcu on and I had to hammer it a bit. Now I see that the between the block and this part in front of it is leaking a bit?
It may be that when I reinstall the new pump and bolt it on, the pressure will stop the leak from leaking. But I may have to reseal the leak before I reinstall the pump. This part that goes between the block and the pump look pretty involved?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The timing cover is fairly involved to remove. Several of the water pump bolts do secure the timing cover to the block.
You may just try putting your new water pump back on and when you tighten the water pump bolts that will pull the timing cover back to the block and it may not leak.
Then go from there.
For the anatomy, you have a water pump out front, then a metal spacer plate sandwiched between the water pump and the timing cover, and then of course the big aluminum timing cover.

Thank you very much Superdave. That makes me feel a bit better. I am even considering putting some sealant on the outside of the joint between the engine block and the timing cover. I am not sure how much good this will do but it won't harm anything???
Thanks again for the help
