Boost Gauge install '02 PSD

I was just wondering if I really needed to drill and tap into the tubing or if there was somewhere I could just T into? The install instructions I have are for 94-97 PSD's. I have an '02 model. Any help would be appreciated and especially pics. Thanks guys

I just put one on my 2000 PS. It was nice and easy, no drilling or tapping.

On the passenger side there is a 1/4" rubber line running from the intake to the map sensor. The tube is wrapped in wire loom, which cause me some problems locating it. But anyway, just locate the map sensor which is a small 1-1 1/2" square box mounted to the top of the a/c evaporater core housing. Just splice the rubber line and use brass fittings from a hardware store to make the connection.

i have also heard of many people splicing into the map sensor line on the newer trucks, however when i got my gauge and instructions it specifically said it was ok to tap into the map line on the 94-98 powerstrokes but that you need to drill and tap the manifold(tubing) for the 99 and newer trucks. i dont know why, but i figure it is in the instuctions like that for a reason.

I did a "T" in my "02". Seems to work fine and has similar boost pressures as what other PSD owners read on theirs.

I very carefully tapped my ('02 F350 crew) aluminum boost housing TDC. No problems & no leaks throughout the gauge apparatus. Curiously, though, I've not seen it over 15lbs of boost. I'm beginning to wonder if there are leaks somewhere in my boost-boots... since (or "in addition") I've also got oil again in the valley. This is the 3rd time that the dealership will try to fix "oil in the valley"; #1 was HPOP, #2 was turbo pedastle seals. It'll keep going back until Ford gets it right. I've been a little disappointed at the amount of warranty work this truck has need (add to those above, a completely new PCM, and -of course- the recalled power brake adjuster). Love it anyway - tows like a dream! Plan to run it until I die....

I used the "T" fitting on my 250 02' and my boost can go as high as 26-28 if I get on it. I have a manual trans, maybe that could be the reason for such a high boost running through the gears. At 65 my boost averages 3-5 lbs. @ appox 1600-1800 rpm's.
