Alright by now i think everybody knows my truck.(LOL doubt it) but hear we go again.....94 F-150 5.0 302 efi auto. ok now that is done with. everyone keeps telling me to put GT-40 heads on my truck. Ok fine....where do i find them and what is the price range. And if they can be found in a junkyard how do i identify them? Any help would be apreciated.
You can get the gt-40 heads of the first gen lightnings, 96 and earlier explorer/ mountaineers with 5.0's of course, and a few mustangs either cobra or gt models (early mid 90's). Looking at the heads on the car or truck, if you look to the lower right corner at the first head bolt you will see "GT" stamped on the head, this would also be found under the valve cover, looking at the front of the head, find the freeze plug, look to the left you should see three visible vertical lines. Expect to pay $300 for a used 80,000 + mile stock set, if the seller knows what he has.
Would you hate it if I said you would probably get the same effect getting a 351w shortblock and then have 49 more cubic inches to build off of?
If you feel ambitious you could always home port your heads. There is a ton of info on how to home port the E7TE heads which you probably have. You would have a head that flows similarly to the gt's if you follow the advice given on the various websites, not to mention save yourself some money.

The only problem is they want a crap load of money for 351w that will bolt into my truck with out modification. i know where i can get one out of a first gen lighting but the want about a 1000 dollars for it because it has been built. and to me dosent $300 sound a little better than $1000? I dont know you tell me would it be make more since to go with a 351w?
All 351w engines would require about the same things to bolt into your truck. If your saying $1000 for a 351w that has been modified and it includes the heads then thats a good deal depending on the miles on it, if they went ahead and installed a roller cam, then again that would be even better.
This swap has been done a few times on this board, only real things you need to be concerned about would be, you need a 351w upper and lower intake, and you would need to modify the Y pipe on your exhaust if its there, and you'd need a 351w distributor. If you have speed density then your efi swaps right over, you need to modify the fuel rail slightly but nothing drastic.
I suppose it depends on what you expect the engine/your truck to do in the end. I have seen some impressive trucks with 302's but they were stroked and blown or stroked and equipped with a big shot of nitrous oxide. Either case they had some cubic inches added to them.
Surely you could find a 351w shortblock a lot cheaper and just reuse your heads. Who knows? It really depends on what you wanna invest and how far you wanna go and what you want to have when you get there. I just suggested it, if a 351w interests you then it might be a good time to do it, if not, a modified 302 sounds good to me. If your just looking for an additional 30-40 hp then I would say $300 would be a good deal.
I could suggest something, if emissions is of no concern, I have a set of D0OE 351w heads ported that I might get rid of, E-mail me if interested.
