I pulled out a 351w and put in a Cummins 6bt. I have a na 7.3, went with the cummins instead just to be different. It was going to cost about the same either way and the same amount of work. What do you need to know?
Cummins souns like a good idea ive alwayse liked the cummins although the 7.3 is a good engine to, what transmision did you use and did you make motor mounts ?? any info would be greatly appreciated thank you
I'm using a 460 ZF Ford tranny. A 7.3 ZF tranny will also work with different adapter plate. Small block ZF won't work, not enough room for big clutch. 351 motor mount brackets in the bottom of the engine bay had to be removed. Passenger side was just unbolted, the driver side required cutting the rivets with torch. Bolted in the motor plates for a 7.3 diesel on the crossmember. Most of the holes were already there. Used Dodge/Cummins mounts(the rubber part with the studs) and a set of custom made brackets for the side of the block. They look simple enough to make, just got to get the angle just right. I'm going to make them myself next time.
What year truck are you considering and what engine is already in place?
If you already have the 7.3 the easiest thing to do is locate a truck in a salvage yard that has already had the 7.3 removed and get all of the parts you need. I bought a 92 f250 with the 7.3, complete and running(no trans) for 500.00. It had all the small parts I needed to do my swap.
