Card To EFI

Ok guys I need your help. I have an 85 F150 4x4 with a carter 1brl that I have rebuilt once (the base plate is worn out) so it worked good for about two weeks then went back to poor power and bad gas milage. I live in Alaska so I have to remain stock and pass mog tests. I was thinking about converting to EFI from an 87 engine, I can get all the parts from a salvage yard for $250 and it is leagle. My question is, is it worth it or should I just get a new carb? If it is worth it what parts should I get from the salvage engine? Im sure this have probably been covered but it would take a week to search all the threads. Thanks for any help that you can give...

It's a much bigger job that just getting a new carb. A new carb would be about the same price and a lot less time consuming.

EFI wouldn't be that bad...providing you have acces to a couple of wiring diagrams, a donor truck, and a little bit of patience.

Do you enjoy wiring? If so, go at it. Make sure that you get every stitch of factory wiring and the computer and the sensors... everything. Get a factory manual for wiring (or, become good friends with a mechanic with access to All-Data or Shop Key). Also get all the fuel system high pressure lines, fuel pump, gas tanks and sender(s). If you can, buy the entire vehicle and bring it home. After your truck runs like a champ, have the junker hauled off. Or, you could get a reman carb and make sure that you are properly tuned and all your vaccum hoses are in good shape and the smog equipment is working properly.
