Well Ive heard alot of you guys talking about the Luk clutch with flywheel and was curious as to what is a price range I can execpt to find. I was quoted a little over $800 which includes all parts and shipping. Is this a fair price or are they trying to put one over on me.This clutch kit is their high end, super strong kit. Just curios as to what you guys think. Thank you
Bought one this morning from Carolina Clutch. LUK Kit with Clutch and SMFW was less than $600. Tom, the gentleman that helped me has been excellent in helping me diagnose the problem and helped me to determine that for my application, the standard clutch was all that I needed. So far I strongly recommend them.
Follow up,
It was more than worth the money. $580 delivered and it is the best thing I have added to my truck. I will not dread going downtown again....
dont go with the LUK if you plan to make some serious power...ive heard the cermatallic wont hold up to all that much..,,i smoked my stock clutch in my 97 today(just put injectors andd such in saturdat). Im going with a southbend from swamps diesel performance. good to 450 hp
And how do you know when your clutch is going? Can you step on the accel pedal and watch the rpms climb before the heat and friction increase and the truck catches up or the rpms drop to show a solid grab?
do any of yall have any experience with the carolina solid flywheel replacement?
Their clutches are LuK, just like the ones being discussed.

According to the advertisement on Carolina Clutch's website it will hold up (the ceramic) on trucks using chips, programmers, propane, and aftermarket injectors. I see them in a lot of guys sigs at The Diesel Stop and haven't heard of them failing under high HP.

That's the recommendation. If you aren't going for any HP records you should be fine with the standard replacement if you drive "smart."

My dual mass flywheel went out before my clutch. Telltale signs of the flywheel going are vibrations at various RPM that become more frequent until it finally falls apart. If you have a dual mass flywheel I recommend replacing the flywheel and clutch as soon as the vibration starts. Clutch slippage is generally one of the first signs that the clutch needs to be replaced, as you said.
I purchased my Luk kit with the solid mass flywheel from Carolina Clutch. Tom was the gentleman I dealt with and was excellent at explaining the difference between the standard and cerametallic clutches. I am a stocker and use it around the farm. He recommended that the standard was more than adequate for my needs and would take care of me. I too lost the DMFW and not the clutch in my truck. It was trying to shake its self apart.
