I found 5W-40 Mobil Delvac 1 at Wal-Mart this weekend, but noticed that it is CH rated, not C-I. Am I looking at the wrong oil, or did I just look at the oil wrong? I seem to have lost mileage and gained noise with the first oil change using Delo 400.
Some people have noticed the same thing with the Shell Rotella T. The CI-4 rating is relatively new and was designed to meet the extra requirements of diesel engines with EGR. The bottles you was were probably old inventory that is still out there. Whenever you buy Shell or Mobil make sure you get the new stuff.
Mobil 1 Truck & SUV (5W40) at Walmart is sold by the quart, and has a yellow cap. There is no old stock, this is a new release, and it is the same as Delvac 1 (CI-4,CH-4,CG-4,CF/SL).
I wouldn't have my oil changed at one of those places unless I supervised and I provided my own oil. Does Pennzoil have a CI-4 rated oil? I use Castrol and will switch to Mobil 1 SUV & TRUCK. The disposal convenience is all I can see an advantage of for a Jiffy Lube. Put a Fumoto valve on your pan (http://www.fumotovalve.com). It makes it easy and don't spill a drop. I save four old gallon containers and drain the oil in to those. Then I dump at an AutoZone that is on my way to work.
I used to have Jiffy Lube change my oil until I got fed up with their mistakes. Over inflation of tires by 40 PSI, doing stuff I told them not to do, adding 1 quart too much of oil, the list goes on and on. I'm also not a Pennzoil fan. I had foaming issues with Pennzoil and the oil was not in good shape by the time I changed it at 3-5K. Since using Rotalla T, and occasionally Delo, I haven't had any problems.
In advance of my upcoming 1st oil change I purchased 15 quarts of Mobil 1 SUV & Truck @ Walmart ($ 4.77 ea.) leaving only 2 quarts left on the shelf.
I then went to the auto service dept an asked how much to change oil & filter using my supplied materials. I got a quote of $ 27.00 - $ 30.00. No fuss no muss for me.
By suppling them with only 14 quarts that should keep them from over filling.
What do you think? Good idea, bad idea to let $ 8.00/hour tech change the oil?
FYI: Not all the Walmarts in North Texas stocking Mobil 1 SUV & Truck at this time. I bought mine in East Texas where I have property.
The Walmart auto manager at the Super Walmart nearby told me that you can order what you want. When I come up on my next oil change, I will ask for the Mobil 1 in 5qt container.

Your brother must have hit the Wal-Mart in Chespeake, VA, yesterday. I was there looking at oil and could only find two qts of Mobil 1 truck & SUV on the shelf.
I have been stocking up on Rotella T synthetic 5w-40 in preperation of my first oil change and ordered a Fumoto valve. I figure if I buy a gallon each time I to Wal-Mart and/or Advane Auto, it won't hurt as much as trying to buy all of that oil at one time.
Where do you all get oil filters from? I was just looking at fordparts.com and they have Motorcraft filters of $5.75.
No filter yet...I haven't even searched the forums for what is best filter for synthedic oils.
In fact, the more I read, I'm not sure if I want go to syn oil @ 5,000 miles...knocking around the forums I've seem some mention of waiting til 10,000 or even 20,000 miles.
As a 1st time diesel owner my learning curve seems to be a high banked hairpin curve.
