Hey everyone. My truck's been doing this ever since I bought it 3 years ago from the original owner of the truck. Whenever I turn the truck left or right, I hear creaking noises coming from the front of the cab as well as the rear of the cab. My guess is that the cab mounts need replacing? Have any of you had that problem before? When I turn sharp, I can hear a total of 4 or more creaks, one right after another. I know there's 4 or 6 cab mounts, so that would make sense if it was that. Any help would be appreciated! By the way, I have a 1980 F-100 Stepside.
Also, just to let you know, the noise is coming from under the cab, sounds like where the cab mounts are. It doesn't do it sometimes though. Lately it only does it once in a while.
It could be your radius arm bushings. I believe they make those kind of noises as well. It could be the cab mounts too. Get someone to lift the cab while you look at the mounts. Good luck!
If you can't get someone else to lift your cab for you, you can use either bumper jacks or just a standard floor jack...you'll want a heavy duty one though, I couldn't tell you exactly what weight jack you need, but I would assume a 2 ton floor jack should work. What you want to do is loosen all your cab bolts...Loosen them, don't take them off. then, take the jack on the side you want to lift first, get it set up. You'll want to use some wood to put between the jack and the body, like a three, four foot long 2"x4". (You might need some extra wood to get the desired level of lift you need to get the body far enough off the mounts). when you're ready to start jacking, go ahead and take the bolts completely out of the mounts on the side you're working on. Just do it slow, and watch out for tight wires or other connections, but you should be able to lift the body high enough to pull out your body mounts and replace them by yourself.
