BFG Rugged Trail T/A
I have a 2003 Explorer Limited AWD, V8 with 17" BFG Rugged Trail T/A's. They seem extremely noisy. Increased road noise begins at 28MPH and goes up from there. I used to have a '96 XLT (130000 miles) with 16" tires (Goodyear Wrangler RT/S) and I don't remember them making this much noise.
Took it to the dealership and they said it was the "Aggressive Treads" making the noise (nothing wrong with the vehicle). The 17" rolling stock, with the "Rugged Trail" treads, would absolutely make the noise I was hearing.
I bought the vehicle with 22K miles on it, so I don't know if the tires were ever rotated and balanced properly.
Anyone have similar issues with the BFG Rugged Trails? Are they inherently loud from the tread design? If so, what would your recommendations be when I replace them?
