I just bought a 02' Limited, 4x4, 7.3 PSD w/ 305/75/16 tires & Rancho 9000 shocks & I will be towing a 7x16 Wells Cargo enclosed trailer loaded with bikes & 4-wheelers about 5,500 - 6,000 lbs. fully loaded.
My question is will I have to do anything to correct any sag in the rear end, if there is any, I haven't even had the trailer hooked up yet. With my Expedition 5.4 4x4 i had about 2" + in sag that I corrected with Air Ride air bags.
i just purchased 2002 v10 excurison limited edition.. it has tow package and gear of 3.73
i installed brake control as they mentioned where the location of harness go to..
i installed and hook up my 24 ft travel trailer which weight about 4500 so took it out for a test drive and hit the main road doing 70 mph no sag or wag nothing just steady .. i loveeedd the beast ! i also raced the f350 haha next door swear that he could beat me with his powerstroke by 1/4 miles hahaha
i told him that he could beat me towing bec 525 ft torque lbs and excursion has about approx 425.. with 325 hp !!!!
well at the green light i smoke him so bad i was way way way way way ahead of him ! so
it pullll like a beast ! i dont even feel it was back of me ! ah i used to pull it with blue expendition 4.6 motor with gear of 3.55 it was little tease on the motor and tranny the rpm kept reving up when going up hills.. byebye expendition ! so the new X is on my driveway.. so only next step i gonna see how it goes with my millionare bro in law for his crappy germany porsche suv 450 hp ! no question hes gonna beat me but how he do in 4 wheeling on LI beach. umm umm umm !!!
later..
Towing.. you shouldnt have a problem or make any adjustment.. make sure the traier is line up even with ur hitch.
You shouldn't have to do anything with that weight. Normally with that weight I would recommend a weight distributing hitch, but the trailer isn't really that long. If you notice rear end sag or poor trailer handling check into a WDH.

Load your trailer fore and aft such that the tongue weight is proper, check the air on both your trailer and truck, if your 9000's are the 9 way adjustables, but the rears up to about 7 or so as jschira trained me and enjoy !

I just recently traded in my 2001 Excursion wit V10 and 3.73 locking rear end for 2004 F350 FX4 4 door 8' bed 6.0PSD. I pull on average 1000 miles a month and trailer weight 8000lbs 31 ' trailer. My tow speed is 70 to 75 mph. I used no leveling device. I had no problems with my Excursion I miss it. I just need the 8' bed. I think with that light load you will have no problems at all. Have fun
Can you guys/gals describe your placement of the brake controller? I am about to install my Prodigy and want a 2nd opinion... I was thinking of the area to the right of fuse box cover... and to the left of the small cubby recessed in dash.
I wold think it is kinda hard to use switch on side to apply brake or adjust braking pressure if it is inside the cubby... I assumed it would sit under dash within easy reach..
Mine is on the right side of the steering column, within reach in case I need the extra boost. Most times pullin the 32' TT I don't even touch the e-brake.

Don't stick it all the way into the cubby. Let it project out 1"-2" The little lever works great.
