I have a 1976 hi boy with the power assist steering link. How hard is it to convert it to standard power steering and if so where are the kits / parts avalible?????
do a search on this..its been discussed a gazillion times...However, apperantly there is a kit on e-bay to do this..dont know how much it is, or how good it is..Im mid way thru my conversion..using a box from a 1 ton van..had to box the frame to mount it...so far so good...
The Ebay kit is great from the talk on these forums but at almost $1000 it is too much for me. I would rather peice together my own kit. Although the kit on ebay is all bolt on IIRC. Depends on how good you are with a welder. If you can weld then get the parts from a junk yard or parts store and read the how-to in the tech articles. You may be able to save a few $$'s. Just my $.02
Dieingford, I agree, Ive been scrounging or making parts for this swap for a while...Ive got hardly any $$$ into it. The only thing Ill prob buy new will be a pump. Cheap enough and a little piece of mind...
That's the next project after my 446 stroker with a 8-71 blower is finished. How much do you have into it if you don't mind me asking. I will be getting a new pump also but using used parts for the rest I think.
Got the box from a buddy for $25. and a piece of Alum treadplate I had laying around..thats all so far..havent priced a pump yet, but will prob go with remanufactured...
78-79 f250 4x4 steering box,narrow the frame slightly, box it,trim inner fender
drill holes to mount box, build new steering link, buy new steering shaft from www.borgeson.com, enjoy having real power steering
