Overheating?

The F-150 in my signature seems to be running hot.I've drove it about 100 miles since I bought it last week and when I'm cruising down the road,it wants to run between halfway and hot of the temp gauge. When it's sitting at idle, sometimes with the A/C going,it will run about halfway.I seem to think it's a stuck thermostat.I have seen some threads in this forum referring to an overheating transmission.Could that be the possible culprit?I'm going to start with the simple stuff about Thursday afternoon by flushing the cooling system and changing the thermostat to the coolest temp I can get.Maybe that will help .

Thanks for any insight.

Two things I'd do, first switch out the thermostat - but not with the "coolest" one you can find but maybe just a step lower (I like 165 -170 if you can find it) and do your flush - but I'd take the radiator out and back flush it. If you get a lot (or even some) rust it's time to get it routed out. The other thing I'd do is add an under dash guage to make sure the factory unit is accurate (only if the flush comes up clean).
