85 Carbs

Last week i finished the rebuild of an 85 300 w/ 1bbl feedback carb that had a hole in the #3 piston. For good measure I wanted to do the carb as well. All the IPC's show a check ball and weight. When I pulled it apart mine has none. Just wondering if anyone knows about it. Also on the float adj one book said to adj it with the float resting on the 2nd needle the other said to not let the small spring compress at all. There is quite a difference in the two. I tried both ways and it still idles rough. I needed to back the idle mix screw out about 6 turns just to keep it running somewhat smooth. I'm sure the timing is set correctly and I don't have any vacuum leaks. Thanks for any thoughts or info

My 84 with the feedback carb would'nt idle at all without the weight. Someone told me once that the feedback carb get leaner the further you back out the screw. Sure wish a had more information on this aspect.
