pulled codes on my 94... now i need help

ok i have a 94 XLT with the 351w and it has 185,000 miles on it. well my check engine light came on so i had the codes pulled. this is what i got:

332- EGR valve opening not detected
452- no input from vehicle speed sensor
628- excessive converter clutch slippage

can someone please help me with how to fix these... i tried to do a search but when i would try to narrow stuff down by using the + sign it said i needed to try different terms. so then i dont use it and 400 posts come up. i know these have been answered before but i just cannot find it. thanks for the help. oh yeah i have not checked my transmission fluid because i have not had time to do so but that is why i think code 628 came up. anyway thanks.

oh yeah one more thing... i noticed a while back that this gray cord with a three prong plug on the end was hanging down from my truck. i traced it back and the other end plugs into a freeze plug on the passenger side of the engine. can anyone tell me what the heck this thing is for. thanks

chris

Ok, I'll try to make this short and sweet. First off, that plug you are referring to is the oil/block heater. Plug it in when its cold out, and it starts up easier. Usually only really needed when below 0.

For the EGR code, it could be several things. The computer didn't see the EGR valve open. It could be sticking, the vaccuum diaphram damaged, or the relay isn't working. You can test it by using applying vaccuum to the EGR valve, and seeing if the engine dies.

For the vehicle speed sensor, it's located on the top of the rear differential, with a small electrical plug. It's probably bad, and they are cheap from Ford.

As for the converter clutch slippage, I would just ignore that one for now, and reset the computer and see if it comes back.
