As most of yall' know I got most of my 390 together , and everything ordered that I don't have yet so i go to sit the heads on it and the left side fits tight down on the block, but the right side didn't. So I changed sides and still the other head wont sit flush on the right side, so the heads are ok, but my block is obviously warped I should have noticed this sooner..... got all these wonderful parts just to find this....that 460 in the corner of the shop is looking awful good right now...some on talk some sense into me, i really love FE's.
Did you check to make sure that the alignment pin is not bent? holding up one side of the head.
Did you have the block bored or honed? The machinist should have caught that.
Worst case, You pull the rotating assembly and have it milled. Not all that bad.
Good luck.
yeah i had it bored and some other work done to it at the shop, i dont think its a pin b/c i can sit the head on there and rock it diagonaly back n fourth.
I would call your machinist and tell him what is happening. Ask him if he checked the deck and if not why. See if he will cut you a deal on the work. It should have been done along with the bore and hone.
The deck on my block was flat but my machinist took a couple of thousands off the deck just to ensure a good seal with the heads. He knew I was going to run N2O. Good machinist are hard to find.
Pulled pins and it worked, put em back in and it didnt , ended up having to tap the head down on the front right pin, well i used my old cast head to try it on and it worked. Thanks guys, Just when ya get stuff almost done and ya run into things u think the worse, well i do cuz my luck doesnt like me
hehe it better be a bad boy when i finish her, if i can get her to atleast 400hp engine wise and with a 200 shot of n02 since i have my forged internals now, she better be more than bad lol....................btw ill tell yall when i blow it up
I may have missed it. What pistons, carb, intake and cam are you running?
The Edelbrock Performer RPM cam and intake, with the Edel heads and 9.5:1CR should get you 400hp.
.030 over flat top Trw's, 427 rods, RPM intake, edel RPM heads, crane 801 cam, roller rockers, 750 holley, all held together with ARP bolts This is the main things u asked for?
I built the same motor as you, with the exception of the cam. I used the Perf RPM. The identicle setup down to the headers, was dyno tested with these results: 418hp and 430tq.
I found the specs for your cam:
int lift: 222 degrees at 0.050, lift: .548
ext. 234 degrees at 0.50 lift: .580
With your Edel heads you don't need a dual pattern cam.
The numbers for the exhaust look good.
Higher duration and lift on the intake side will help you get to 400HP.
Although people here seem to like the Crane cams.
Anyone else running Edel heads Please chime in.
Good luck.
