My friend has a 1949 F-100 with some sort of a v8 in it.
He has the original flathead v8 in the barn, thing is pretty sweet.
It has what he believes to be a 302 under the hood, unfortunately the truck was given to him by his uncle who died shortly after he got it, and he knows very little about it.
What are some ways to tell the displacement of the engine without rippin it apart?
Its deffinitly not above a 302 due the physical size of the block, its pretty small.
Has a Holley carb on it, don't know if those came stock at any point...
It could be a 351HO, it had a holley 4bbl from the factory. I would get the casting numbers off the block and check them, that will tell you what size the block is.
All small blocks are basically the same but not identical.
The 289 was internally beefed up over the early 221/260. The 302 is the same as the 289.
The 351W is the same family, but has taller decks and once again is internally beefed up over the 289/302.
The early small blocks (221/260/289) up to about mid 1965 had a 5 bolt transmission pattern. All small blocks from that point on have the same 6 bolt pattern. Aside from that, all small blocks will freely interchange.
Some of those don't line up right i realize, it was hard to tell with the block paint and the starter sittin right there. not to mention the truck is about 4" off the ground...
Looks like a fairline motor, i know they put 302 motors in, what else?
