I've got 295's on American Racing Atlas 16x8 rims on my wifes X which is just like yours with no lift and no rubbing problems. My first set which lasted for 83K miles on the F250 was bought for $850 with tax, mounting and balancing. The second set was bought at the tirerack for $165 per tire plus shipping which was $20 per tire. Around Christmas last year Sears was selling the 295's for $135 each which is the cheapest I've ever seen them.

Changed tires even before I got my truck. I run 33x16.5x12.5 with no problems. Had very minor rubbing on driver's side inner fender wall, but resolved that easily by pulling it back a bit. No more rubbing now!
If I look at my truck with a full turn, it's pretty close, so anything bigger than that probably would not fit without a lift. I'm actually looking into getting an 4.5" Edge Lift and then run 35 BFG's on them...

One thing to consider b4 going to larger tires is the stock shocks are marginal with the stock tires, any larger and you will create a larger problem...

Stock rims are too small for 305's. 295's will work but will rub on the Excursion. The SD pickups sit one to two inches higher in the front so they can use them no problem. 285's are your best bet for stock. Or buy wheels and get the 305's - they are actually about the same diameter as 285's.

The stock wheels are wide enough for 305s and 315s and wider. They may not be the recommended width, but the tires will fit and work fine. I currently have 315/75/16 on the stock rims with no issues (of course there is a liftkit). The guy that helped me has the same size tire on stock rims on his truck for over 50k miles with no problems.

Wow thanks everyone I think I have decided on 295's glad to know 315's will work also with a lift is that a 2" lift or 4" I have been looking at the edge 2" . Another issue has anyone had their spedo corrected after putting on biger tires? If so how hard is it and as always the big one how much did it cost $$$.

I think Ford will adjust the speedometer for under $100. You can also buy a power programmer for $300 which should give you a slight power increase and also allows you to adjust the speedo. Excursions spedometers are not 100% accurate from the factory, and someone on here said that 285/75/16 would make the speedometer closer than original tire size. If you only go to 295s, I would not chnge the speedometer, but know that you are traveling a little faster than stated so put the cruise on the speed limit and know that you are a little faster and the mileage is a little better. If you have a 4WD, 295s should work with minor rubbing at full lock. I have 6 inches of lift on a 2WD which would be the same height as a 4WD with 4 inches. With the stock rims and 315s, I get a little rub at full lock on one side worse than the other, but it will rub both sides. With careful driving after practice, I never rub; but it does rub when anyone else drives it as they do not know.
