Oil Filter Question

I read the info on Oil Filters that has been talked about in the Oil & Lubrication board. After reading the filter research I pulled the Fram filter off my PSD and replaced it with a Motorcraft and cut open the Fram. I did not find a by-pass valve or anti siphon valve, am I missing something in the filter?
My question is " Do the Filters the PSD motors have or need these." On my diesel farm tractors they are located in the filter mounting.

I have not cut open the Motorcraft filter. I will at the next oil change.
The one odd thing I did find on the Fram filter was what looked like a blow out of a pleat in the filter medium. There was not a hole but it did protrude out from the rest of the filter.
The Motorcraft filter is also about an inch longer than the Fram. Possibly more filter material.

I have been using NAPA 15w 40 but am changing to Rotella on the next change.
Let's here what you think or know.

Oil Filter Question

The bypass valve is built into the filter base. Mine fell out once while I was changing the oil and I had to re-pean it into place. It looks like a flat washer and has a spring behind it. You can see it off to the side of the main oil passage into the oil filter. It was just luck that I saw something fall into the drain pan when I pulled the filter off.

Oil Filter Question

You must have an older truck. The design has been changed. There is now a snap ring that holds it in -- a much better design.
