I have a 93 F250 S/cab 4x4 and have changed to 410 gears for towing a 7000 lb 5th wheel
the only troubles I have when towing is a lack of power in the hills.
I have had to have the tranny rebuilt once and replaced with a rebuilt another time.. there is 255,00km on the truck. The truck will tow have no fear...
Under the rear of your truck, look for a little metal tag stuck under one of the bolts on the pumpkin on your rear end. It should have a series of numbers with either a space or an "L". I believe it's the first 3 numbers which refer to the differential of your setup. for example, a 3.73 rear would be printed 3 73 if it had an open rear, or
3L73 if it was a limited slip(the old posi-traction) rear. Hope this helps, and mostly I hope I'm right and this is what you're referring to!
I believe my 89 was 3.55 but I could be wrong. Have you checked in your owners manual for any info on max CGVW?
Your GVW will be on the data plate in the door jam. With these two numbers and the weight of your truck you should be able to figure out your maximum gross trailer/pin weight.
