I just bought a performance accessories 3 in body lift for my 1976 f-150. Single cab with a manual tranny and 390. Everthing is stock on the truck. Is there any additonal parts i need or modifications to do to install the lift?
What all did the kit come with? I know different companies will include different accessories with these kits but a couple things you're going to have to fiddle with:
Gas filler neck will need to be extended (provided your tank isn't in cab which I didn't think was the case in 76)
Bumpers will require some modified brackets to make them look normal or you'll have a huge (well, 3" anyway) gap between the bumpers and the body . . . tends to look sad.
Don't know if you have a stick or auto but either way you'll have to extend something. Linkages with an auto or the shifter with a stick. If you have a 4x4 you'll also need to extend the transfer case shifter.
Brake lines may need to be extended though not always. Not at the wheels but between your master cylinder and frame. Also keep an eye on your e-brake cable.
Radiator hoses will need to be extended.
Keep an eye on your throttle linkage too as it'll need to be adjusted.
Steering shaft will need some work though many kits will include parts for this.
I feel like I'm missing 1 or 2 things but if I think of them I'll add them later. Good luck with the project!
The truck is four wheel drive and is a stick shift.
From what I can tell from the advertisement and picture the kit has the mounting blocks, various assortment of bushings, bolts washers and pipe clamps, it is all part of the perfomance accessories package and gurantees that it has "all the necessary parts" and I know this is not always the case.
I am pretty handy with a welder and a cutting torch so I think I can make the new bumber brackets will be able to extend the shifters by myself. The truck is mainly used for hunting and offroading so it isn't important that everthing has a "finished" appearance
Also is this a weekend project or is it going to take a long time?
You should easily be able to finish it in a weekend so long as you have all the parts you need. Where people get delayed with body lifts is they'll go to throw the spacers in there really fast and then start finding all the little details that need attention which didn't come with the kit. Then you have to start hunting around to find parts and modify stuff.
