PSD Buffs...I would like to know where the CPS is located on my 95/96 PSD. From reading on the message board I think the problem I am having with random cutting out/hesitation through all rpm ranges and temperatures. How would I troubleshoot this item? The dealership could not identify my problem. Basically loose power like a fuel pump problem but only from 1-3 seconds, and the dealership said the fuel system was fine.
If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. If more information is needed on my problem, please let me know.
Front cover of the engine, just above the timing marks on the vibration dampener (if I'm wrong sorry, I'm just looking at the diagram in the CD manual). Right side of the engine as viewed from the drivers seat.
From what I've read over at -diesel.com you can save some money by getting the new one from an International Dealer.
You will need a 10mm wrench and a screwdriver. Takes about five minutes. Then have a beer. Buy two sensors and keep one in the glove box. These are notorious for stopping the mighty PSD in it's tracks.
The Diesel Dude had a very comprehensive reply on this subject some weeks past. I forget who needed help, but he had a similar year PSD and Joe helped him troubleshoot this as well. You might search that, or maybe joe will chime in. He is the man!
Had the same type problem with my 95 F250 power stroke. Loosing power and then after a while total shutdown on hills and under heavy load. Truck would always fire right up after shutdown. My first thaught was fuel problem also but thrned out to be CPS. Bigdeezil58 has it right, get two of them and have a beer after the pains taking job fo replaceing the CPS.
The guy you need to talk to is tcpds on page 2 of this forum. He is the one who figured out how to diagnose a defective cam sensor. I work for the company that manufactures the Power Stroke and WE can't even diagnose it! We are just a bunch of parts changers -- trial and error! TCPDS is "the man!"
Thanks for the help. What is the torque for any bolts etc.? I will look for the other posting...I had read one from about three/four weeks back is this the same one? Any recommendation of International dealer online? Or url?

Just thought I'd add to bhmadsen's excellent reply;
Unless you are really tall, and/or have go-go gadget arms, you will need to lay under the truck. Lay under the passenger side and look at the vibration dampener, then think of it as a clock. The sensor is at 10'clock on the front of the engine. Be sure to have a beer.......or two,etc.
