Transmission Question
Has anyone had an issue with the latest generation explorers (04 - V8) in which it accelerates to 60 mph fine but as soon as you go above 60 mph (into the 60 - 70 mph range), it doesn't seem to want to shift unless you really press the gas pedal hard - it can be forced to shift by hitting the pedal hard, but on normal throttle, it seems to get confused in shifting between 60 and 70 mph. As soon as you try to get above 60, it starts to rumble and can only be force shifted. The one odd thing is that on full throttle from a stop, I can accelerate easily to 70, but maintaining a speed in the 60 - 70 range is a challenge.

is actually more of a downshifting problem to accelerate above 60. it can be done, but only by really "flooring the pedal." for some reason, 60 mph seems like a "wall" that the car can't get past without a real forced downshift. It does cruise fine once I get above that 60 mph.

OK, I'm back.....(wife's ****ed, now she's late for Bingo; I could hear the FlowMaster for 2 blocks when she left). Anyway, I couldn't duplicate your problem - I was able to downshift and accelerate from 50-60-70 mph with only moderate pressure on the go pedal (didn't have to stomp it). If you could get a service tech to ride with you and have it documented, it would help make your case to get it fixed. Good luck!
