My dad has a 99 f-350 he put a super chip in it before he went on his annual hunting trip to colorado he said that when he got about 5 hours away from home his rpm's went way up and he lost all power and he said that the turbo sounded like it was about to blow up except for the chip the truck is stock I was wondering if this happened because he needs a diffrent exhaust or if the chip was bad he said he pulled over and took the chip out and it ran fine. Thanks in advance
How much of a chip did he put in? 50 horsepower? If he didn't have a pyrometer and/or he didn't keep and eye on the EGT, then he coulda melted down the turbo . A must when installing a chip is a larger exhaust system. It'll be a headache to have the turbo replaced by Ford, especially if the chip caused the problem and Ford can prove it. Then they are not required to pay for the repairs and your dad will be stuck with the bill.
