I replaced the o ring in #5 cyl. which I pinpointed as a smoker w/ a breakout box.
While I had the valve cover off I figured I'd
swap it w/ #3 cyl. which also got new O rings. Helped for about a week and now seem to smoke @ #5 again. Seems worse when humidity is high. Is that possible. When I disable it with the breakout the smoke clears. I have no DTC. But it idles rougher when smoking, I guess. Like I'll pull out #5 and see if anythig looks unusual. Is it possilbe for an o ring not to seal?
It's a 99 f250 w/193K miles that otherwise runs good, doesn't use oil.the oil and fuel filter are new.Any other advice?
Thats interesting my late 99 is in at ford and they are replacing #5 injector because it smokes on startup. They pulled the exhaust manifolds and found #5 to be "oiler than the rest". When you idle yours up does it shoot a cloud of blue when you let off the throtle when cold?
When installing new O-rings on an injector, it's wise to let the injector sit for 30 minutes or longer before re-installing, so the O-rings can shrink down to their original size after being stretched slightly during placement on the injector. The injector needs to be saturated with oil prior to insertion into the head, also. Failure to do either of these things can cause an O-ring to fail to seat properly.
Thanks for the reply Quad I can't saay I let it sit for 30 min and by all indications I
really thinnk that my be the problem I was also told to chaeck compression which I'll do when I get the truck to work on again
