Question Fuel pump continuous whining

I have a 1991 F150 XLT 5.0 EFI with dual tanks. I don't use the front tank since it appears the fuel pump is out in this tank. The problem I am having is with my rear tank, the truck will have bad acceleration and the check engine light will come on. I turn off the truck, then turn the key to the on position and instead of the normal 1-2 sec. whine of the fuel pump, it stays on until I turn the key back to the off position. This problem is intermittent, but when the check engine light is on, the truck has very little or no acceleration. When the check engine light is off, everything seems fine, and the fuel pump behaves normally at startup. Does this sound like a fuel pump about to go out, or maybe the relay for the fuel pump? Thanks for any advice.

Pulling the codes would be a good place to start. Do that and let us know what you find.
And, Welcome to FTE!

I pulled the codes yesterday and got one referring to a fuel delivery electrical system failure. I replaced the fuel pump relay and have driven about 10 miles so far without any problems. This is the longest I have gone without the problem occurring since it started happening earlier this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I dont have to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump.
