Yes Ford pickup
F-100's & F-150s came with a 9".

F-250's/350's usually have Dana's

The Box length & wheelbase mean nothing. Get rid of the shortbox theory.

It is the frame strength/weight rating & axles that are combo's. F250/F350

shortys are theory because you have long box and short box so it can be theory and along with f250's/f350's mine is a f100 custom none of the above

I'll try again.
When it comes to determining what rear Diff. you have... It doesn't matter whether the truck has a short bed or a long bed.

It is all about Truck specs mentioned above ...not the "BODY"

Double check that rear, I'm fairly certain it was possible in '79 for a Dana 44 or other similar light duty rear to be found in the RWD F100. The identifying feature of a 9" is the carrier unit bolts to the front. It does not have a rear cover.
