The little nub on the top side of the rod with teh hole that goes to teh rod journal. Is it a cam oiler or a piston squirter?
If it's the cam oilers, do all six oilers point to the cam? (i figure yes, but it is Ford you know)
The reason i'm asking is i'm putting a 300 together that someone else tore down. They didn't mark which side of the rod went to the front of the motor. I tried figuring by forging marks, but using those some of the oil ports point right and some left.
Do i just point all of the oilers at the cam or what?
Rod must have a number at side. This is the relative position in block, i.e. if there is a number 4 it means this rod must be in cylinder number 4 BUT this same number should point ALWAYS to Camshaft.
I know about matching the numbers to one another. when i pressed the pistons on w/ the oilers pointed at the cam all of the ID numbers wound up on the same side, so i figure it'l work out.
All your rods should have a cast "dot", pretty much on the same side as the casting numbers. As long as all the "dots" are facing the front of the engine, you're good. When reassembling my pistons and rods, I mark the dot and the "front" arrow with a dab of yellow paint to make sure they get assembled correctly. And still did one or two backwards. I really hate that. When you use the "hot rod-cold pin" assembly you have move quick and it's surprisingly easy to screw up. Dammit. I hate pressing a pin back out of a brand new piston.
they're already pressed on and going back togetehr. i tried using the dots and that's what screwed me over, they seem to be randonly on one side of the rod or the other. i just poitned all the oilers at the cam and am hoping for teh best.
