I have a 95 F350 PS, 4X4 offroad, all that. It has 200K+ miles, and I just recently bought it. Therefore I don't know a whole lot about it and am still learning; also I've never had a diesel before. Both my Mom and my Dad have diesels, and I am familar with them, but one is a 2000 F250 and the other is a 2001+/- Dodge 2500. Sooooo...mine is bigger and older and not really comparable.
I have two tanks on my truck, and I was told they are both ~17 gal. However, I have never gotten more than ~15.5 gal each time I fill up, in either one and I ran them as dry as I dared (it's injection). And my mileage is yucky!! Yes, big truck, V8 is going to eat a lot, but 12-13 on the highway?? What are you guys that have something similar to mine getting? Also, what can affect mileage? Right now it has 315/75s, but I just ordered 265/75s, so that should help...will that help somewhat? I also seem to get better mileage when I use the back tank, as odd as that sounds. They both take the same amount when I fill up (~15 usually), but the front hits E at about 180-190 miles and the rear hits E at about 220.
You may be getting better mileage than you think. If the speedo wasn't recalibrated for the taller tires, it is reading slow and not showing the proper miles traveled.
The difference in miles to E could just be the difference in the way that the sending units read.
Thank you. I think my gauges may be wrong, because I went ~40 miles on the E the other day...and since I only fill up 15 gal, give or take, and the lowest number I've found for tank size is 17, yeah. Oh well!!! I'll just deal with it, because I am utterly thankful I no longer drive a gas. These prices, yikes!
