Question Lawn mower

Question about lawnmower? Im not sure where I should post this but I hope its close enough. The mower is a Briggs 5.5 horse push mower the problem is when I try to start it it only runs for a few seconds then dies but if i continue to prime it it will run a little longer I took off the carb and cleaned it and blew it out but it still dies its a very simple carb just a bowl, float, needlevalve, and a bolt in the bottom of the bowl with three small holes in it the mower is about 6 years old and I have taken pretty good care of it any trouble shooting ideas would be apreciated. BTW my better half is starting to really nag me cause the grass is getting pretty tall lol Thanks guys!

If the gas tank cap has a vent, make sure it's clear. Also, can you see any crap at the bottom of the tank? If so, try flushing it out.

Also check the rubber line from the tank to the carb. Do you use stabilizer over the winter?

Air filter clean?
Check the choke operation and setting.
Where carb is bolted on, make sure gasket & carb body are making a good seal = not sucking air in the wrong place.
Is fuel good?

normally one of three things

Water in gas,
Sharpened blade and put it on backwards,
shear pin broken.

most likely bad gas (especially if you bought it at the cheapest place)

I had the same problem, went to Home Depot and just bought another $100 special. If I get 6 yrs out of this one too, its worth it.
