PSD60LFX4 I did your EGR disconnect, but engin light came on, hooked it back up and light stayed on, disconnect bats, light off, disconnect bats, pull EGR plug, eng.light off for 1 starting cycle then secound start light back on, did drive it disconected and thought it had a bit better low end pick up, any ideas? Thanks for your info
No downsides THAT I AM AWARE OF...hence the bold letters. If anyone knows of any, please step in. Every bit of logic I have tells me otherwise, however, and the only negative effect i know would be slightly increased exhaust emissions. Im still contemplating the reason your light has come on; I have unplugged the EGR off many a truck here with no light; a scanner would pay off as it very well may be a different code that just happened to pop up at nearly the same time out of coincidence. Until you can find out for sure, ill be doing a little more research and pondering...
I have an '06 F-250 and after spending almost $800 today on an egr cleaning, i would like to know, if i disconnect the egr does the egr system become obsolete, and will this prevent future carbon buildup.
Search the 6.0 section about the egr. I have read and found alot of info, but no expert am I. I think the link above will work for one of them. I have an 04 and disconnected my egr without getting any idiot lights, probably have codes, but I have no scanner and they wont hurt anything from what I understand. I do know from reading your year will probably get you an idiot light. Just do a little search and there are some others who can really help you when you have some more questions.

PS- i also removed the throttle plate from the intake elbow (used for backpressure for the EGR, the plates are only in early model 03's and the new 04's) Both of these WILL decrease the time it takes for your turbo to spool up, by a noticeable yet not drastic amount.
Now just wanting to make sure, this dosen't apply to the 2005 models, correct? b/c iv' heard some other years had them. thanks..
'04 6.0 4x4 6'' lift w/ 35 BFG's....I felt a huge difference in throttle response just unplugging the EGR!! I just bought the block off plate for the exhaust tube to the EGR cooler to stop all hot air from entering !! Without removing all the EGR cooler crap, it looks like its legally hooked up still !! Forget about spending $ 500 -$ 600 on the delete kit... spend $ 35 on the block off plate and be done with it...I can't wait till I install that !! Then you can leave the EGR in place and plugged in with no codes... What more do you want !!!!
It'll throw a "egr flow insufficient" I think it's PO401.
But this is only if you are still programmed stock.
However, the CEL may go out after 20-30 hours of drive time.
boy, talk about resurrecting an old thread. Way to go searching forum info.
