Ok, i'm looking for some headers for my truck, what would be the best brand in the price range of 200-250? I dont need some super chromed out header that looks good. I just want somthing that functions.
JBA makes some nice ones. They come in chrome, porcelain-coated, and Stainless, with chrome being the cheapest. They usually come with the Y-pipe also. I could notice an immediate difference in torque after putting them on my 2.9L. Check them here: http://www.jbaheaders.com/
No Y pipe for the 3.0. I'm having one made without the pre cats and putting on one high flow cat. HUGE difference in power with the headers and cat back.
how easy is it to plug up your cat? cause my truck has 115k on it, and i'm thinkin about redoing the whole exhaust this summer, running headers, forget the y pipe, i'm gonna runn a high flow cat, and a flowmaster 40 series off each header probably with some 2.00 inch piping. You can get these things on ebay pretty cheap. What about pacesetter headers? they have a set for my truck for 209.99$ Why so cheap? are they junk or what?
DO NOT GET PACESETTER!!!! I have had 5 Cars most civics and other mazda. ANYWHO those pacesetter headers make a diff in sound and performance. BUT THEY DO NOT LAST they are trash. Go with the more expensive headers and they will last you awhile..... YOU GO CHEAP YOU GET CHEAP
i was reading the ranger forum to pick up some info .i have a 4.0 in an aerostar and was thinking of headers if i swap engines this summer. how long do headers last? i'll never get back in there to replace them again. kinda tight quarters. rick
well, in minnesota, i think its probably important i get somthing with some good corrosion resistance, because for how much sand and salt they put on the roads here, some cheap headers would probably rust out in no time. we still have sand and salt in the gutters from winter.
Aha, so you're really going to want to lean towards the (ceramic) coated or stainless type headers. You could also get standard headers and paint/powdercoat them (or have it done) with high-temp engine & exhaust paint. Anything to resist that corroson. Aside from that, steel is steel, unless the different companies use different gauges on their pipes.
