I have a 1996 Ranger 2.3L, 5 speed manual, AC, power steering. When you crack the throttle it bogs, sucks air, and pops out the throttle body. Really bad with A/C on. I have almost 20 hg constant vaccum at idle. No check engine light. I'm only getting 20 mpg. Will removing the octance timing module (retards 2 degrees) help? It also will idle high after trips with or without the A/C on. That is intermitent. The backfire is constant. If you feather in the throttle it won't do it but it has poor throttle response.
The IAC is the idle air control valve, controls idle speed, normally located on/near throttle body. There might be a picture of one in the links I have in the tech info thread.
Its 124,000 miles. The timing belt was changed at 78,000. Thanks I will check the tech info. I have not it with the octane plug out yet. The rain came in before I had a chance.
