Question Engine dies when driving in heat

I have a 96 Explorer XLT and deliver a rural mail route. When stop and go driving in the heat after 2-3 hours, my engine dies and I can usually get it started after letting it sit for 5-10 minutes but it runs pretty rough. It will die again after approx 20-30 minutes. No check engine light comes on and I've had it to several dealerships only to have them tell me to bring it to them when it's acting up and then they can help me. We've replaced the IAC and are at a loss as to what to do next. I have 89,000 miles on it. HELP!!

Control module and/or computer breaking down.
This has been a sore spot with Fords for quite some time, thought they'd finally figured it out.

I have a similar problem with my 92 explorer. It only acts up after the engine has a chance to warm up and only during go/stop traffic. My explorer can idle long and it won't shut off. I can drive it to and from work at night (approx.6 miles total both ways) and nothing happens. But in the afternoon and in traffic, the car acts up as if it's either not getting fuel or a signal but anyways, the vehicle would spudder before dying. Turn the vehicle off for a few seconds or minute and it runs great. I've already changed my fuel filter and ignition control module. Spark plugs and wires were changed about 4 months ago and air filter is clean. I was wondering if the ignition coil pack is the problem.

Sounds reasonable that the coil pack be suspect, could also be computer, and/or both. At times like this it's usually best to pay to have a diagnostic done, or you can be replacing one part after another.

You may have to do research to find a 'reliable' shop that specializes or does a lot of diagnostic work. Many may be capable (yes even dealerships) but few have the knowledge to actually do wire by wire or component by component mechanical detective work.
That includes having enough sense, to tell you that you've got to leave it with them long enough for the symptom to show up. You need to do your part in telling them as finite as possible when and how the vehicle acts up. Then you need the patience to give them the time to let them do their job.

Keep in mind, electrical problems are often not a single component, they work on the same lines as the domino theory. Meaning you/they have to find the first part breaking down, fix/replace that, then continue with the checking to the end of the system line.
