BIGGEST tires on stock rim

Whats the widest tire I can use on a stock 17inch rim off of an FX4?

anyone at least have some general information reguarding how wide of a tire can go on a certain sized rim?

I put 285/70/17 BFG's on mine. They look like the exact tire size that should have come on the truck. I may go with a 305 next time I blow $1,000 on shoes. There is absolutely no problem with the fit. They have tons of room.

For a 7.5" wide rim you dont want to go over the 285. A 305 minimum is 8". These are tire makers guidelines.
