Ok ive got a few questions to ask and any insight if possible. I have a 1990 ford f150 with the 302 i know after 87 or so they started adding in the on/off type senders instead of the bell shaped variable oil pressure type my question is if i put the bell shaped type in place of the origanal idiot sender will it work right? I know there is a 20 ohm resister behind the dash that needs to be by passed so it will read right. I have already purchased the pre 87 type sender. I was wondering if any body had some pics of where the resiter on back of the gage in dash is located and what they did to by pass it so the pre-87 sender works. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Worked perfectly on my '91 and your '90 is identical wiring diagrams. Just solder across the resistor that is on the back of the panel. It is the only resistor near the oil pressure gauge, at least on mine (speedometer and four gauges, cheap model). Not sure about the cluster with the tach. Then just change out the sensor.
This is obviously for a newer truck but it's similar:
I'm almost positive '90 is the first year for the idiot gauge. 87-89 had a different wiring diagram than 90-91 even though it was the same body style. I don't think there's a resistor in the wiring diagram for 87-89.
