Is there a way to manually clear the OBD-II codes on a '98 ranger? I disconnected the battery for about an hour but I've heard that only turns off the CEL which it did. I've repaired my problems so now I want to make sure no codes are still being stored.
That will reset the computer, which if there were any codes will wipe them out. Assuming you fixed what it is that was causing the code, the CEL should not come back on.

Pull the ECU fuse in the underhood relay box for 20 minutes and you'll get the same results....and keep radio presets. I'm spoiled that way.
If you fixed the problem, as noted, you won't have anything more to worry about.

I've found that my radio is smarter than that in both trucks. I lose the channel that is on the VFO at the time, but all my presets are still there. When I replaced my dash, I pulled the entire unit out, unplugged everything and placed it in the garage for a day, and they were still there. Maybe I'm just crazy, or Ford actually improved it.
I've disconnected the battery in the past and lost everything on the radio. I've done it twice in the past week and the presets are there but I have to reset the clock. Go figure. I think this truck has a mind of it's owns. I've had a strange problem for about 6 months where the passenger airbag off light stays on when the switch is in the on position but goes out when i turn it off. In this case the airbag light on the dash flashes code 25. When I turn the switch to on, the passenger switch light goes on and the dash light goes off. I disconnected the battery for about an hour the other night and now everything seems to work as advertised. Is there a difference in disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes as opposed to an hour as far as to what is reset?
