power steering

Install my old power steering pump after a engine over haul that took 5 years on my 79 bronco. I hook up the pressure line and return added steering fluid but no power steering. Tried the direction from a repair manual turning the wheel 30 degrees left and right to bleed the steering box and check fluid level than to full stop both ways. I got intermittent power steering turning right but that it. Could i have damage the steering box while pushing bronco into my shop with no steering pump ? Had to turn the wheels couple of times during the push, or is my power steering pump shot ?

Sounds like a bad pump to me. I'm sure you had the belt nice and tight (No slipping). I bought a rebuild kit for my pump and had it rebuilt in just two hours. Saved me some money over buying a new/rebuilt pump.
