Lies or deception, especially anything for gain at my expense. Good news, have only had his happen a couple of times. Just like a used truck, if you shop 'em right you usually get a winner.
I have been the type of person who only has the type of friends that would walk through fire right by your side. Always have or they wouldn't "friends" of mine. I "know" more people tha I could ever count, being military and all, but my friends are just as loyal to me as I am to them. I'd like to say I'm pretty easy to figure out, so my friends wouldn't betray me. I've had more family betrayals than friend betrayals.
I "had" one friend that asked to borrow 600$ bucks because he was in a bind, I knew him since we both were in the 5th grade so there was no reason why i wouldn't do it. We both agreed I would recive all the money back no later than a month. To make a very long story short I only got 250$ from him 2 months later........and the friendship ended.
Kind of sad to say it ended over money but if you can't trust em why be friends with em??? It's all good, you really find out who the true friends are when it get's hairy......or when you end up towing their Chevy home!!! LOL j/k (story behing that one too)

$600 may be alot of money to you- it is to me- but what is that friendship worth? I would have gladly offered the money to my best friend, not expecting the money back on any schedule. friends are much too valuable to lose over a few- or few hundred- dollars. It's only money, you'll get paid again in a few weeks.
On the other hand, a true friend would not have borrowed money from you, unless they were in dire straights- life or death, about to lose the house, kind of thing.
But, being the man I am- hard to figure out, and hard to get along with- I value friendship among the highest rewards of life- right up there with love. Good thing the love of my life is also my best friend!!
me and my best friend have said things towards eachother during arguements that would bring both of us to a fist-fight with ANYONE else, but some odd reason weve never thrown a punch at eachother. ive got the definate advantage though, id feel bad for beating him up
You have a good point there stu37d, but it wasn't as simple as giving him the money and him not paying......like I said it is a long story. Now after you gave one of your "best friends" the money and he/she just stopped coming by and avoided you like the common cold, what would you think? The you hear from others that he/she was bragging about getting the money and wasn't going to pay any back in a nut shell, now myself at the time of hearing this it was just words untill i heard it first hand. Now thats not a friend, friends don't burn you like that.......it wasn't the fact of not getting the money when "we" agreed upon, personally i didn't care about that......and yes 600$ is a lot when you are 17, I'm 20 now.
I totaly agree with your "value of friendship".....true friends are hard to come by.
Well, though I still don't know the whole story, I do feel like I know enough to say that maybe you weren't as good of friends as you thought. Yes, $600 is alot of money to give away when you are 17 (and regardless of what I said earlier, I don't like giving away that much money), but the bigger loss is the time you invested into a relationship that was nothing to the other party but something material, and for that, I am sorry you had to endure it. It does, however, make you a stronger and wiser person in the future.
