Tuning your Amp Question
I have seen on several posts here regarding tuning an amp and I have a question.
Why is it that you only turn your HU up 3/4 the way of the volume and turn your amp gain up until you hear distortion and turn it down a bit? Why not turn your HU all the way up and turn you amp gain up until you hear distortion and then turn it down a bit?

Do you listen to your radio with the volume all the way up all the time? Probably not. So having your volume at a "moderate" level and then adjusting the amp gives you a cushion. If you want to turn up the volume from the normal volume you still got about half the max volume to play with. Also, having the radio and/or amp at full volume will cause distortion. Just my experience, some of the others may have more technical reasons.

You nailed it triton for my self once all your layout is set (3/4 up,adjust-gain,set any level boost settings) and go If you find your self reaching that 3/4 mark often you need bigger amps!!!!

The amp should have a screw type adjustment **** for the gain. Clockwise to increase, vice versa to decrease.
Depending on the amp you have, won't be able to tell you exactly where it is, but usually they are in the same location as the wiring connections.

I would post pics but I cant add attachments yet, but along w/ Rangerxlt02 statement It is prob recessed in the amp through a 3/8" hole, It should have a flat screwdriver cut in the *** w/ a 30 degree bevel (out of 360) for power alignment,other wise it will be a round **** exposed and should say "Gain".

ok can screw the amp in wich you are referring to is from the mach 460 line and unfortunately is not adjustable It works off a fixed power increase. When ford looks to the aftermarket lines to build their stereo systems they often "hide" them out of the way. often you wont know its the amp even if your looking at it. But if its not enough there is numerous ways to add an amp without having to "butcher" your wiring, Try crutchfield.com or your favorite manufactorer usually they have converters or wire connectors instead of "rca" cords to give you that omph
